The Data Protection Code for Geodata Services sets out, in a comprehensive manner, the obligations of service providers and the rights of consumers in relation to geo-referenced image material captured from the street side. It applies exclusively within the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany. The Code protects informational self-determination and ensures a high level of data protection. In doing so, it promotes acceptance of those services that make image material available in accordance with the Code.
The scope of the Code covers the provision of image material captured from the street side within the territory of the Federal Republic of Germany. To see all services adherent to the Geodata CoC, check out the Public Register.
Where a service provider submits a service to the Geodata CoC, it must, in compliance with data protection requirements, fulfil a range of obligations when offering that service. These obligations are laid down in the Code.
As an independent monitoring body, SCOPE Europe supports the effective implementation of the Geodata CoC and promotes high standards of transparency, consumer protection, and compliance.
