The discussion was centered on the use of structured compliance tools under different legal frameworks. While SCOPE Europe shared its experience operating and monitoring GDPR codes of conduct—drawing in particular on the example of the EU Cloud Code of Conduct in the cloud sector—KISA provided valuable insights into Korea’s approach under the Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA).
Key topics discussed included best practices for monitoring and compliance, approaches to harmonising GDPR requirements across complex and global industries such as cloud services, and opportunities for international cooperation in the field of data protection standards - such as codes of conduct and certifications. The exchange highlighted clear synergies between the European and Korean frameworks, as well as a shared interest in promoting practical, high-quality compliance instruments.
At SCOPE Europe, we strongly support international dialogue and cooperation as a means to disseminate robust data protection standards and promote the highest level of protection for data subjects. We thank KISA for this productive exchange and look forward to continuing the conversation on how compliance mechanisms can support effective and trustworthy data protection across jurisdictions.
