SCOPE EuropeNews

BRUSSELS, May 11, 2023 – SCOPE Europe co-signs a statement alongside BSA | The Software Alliance and other leading organizations in tech, security, and innovation sectors.

As the next round of trialogue negotiations on the highly anticipated Data Act approaches, the statement supports the EU Commission’s efforts to develop data sharing and reuse, while highlighting potential concerns related to topics such as intellectual property and trade secrets.

In a nutshell, these statement calls for the need to:

  • Protect intellectual property and trade secrets in the Data Act's B2B chapters.
  • Ensure that cloud switching provisions provide diverse, secure, cost-efficient, and up-to-date solutions with practical requirements.
  • Guarantee that interoperability provisions align with the EU's international commitments, including obligations under the WTO Agreement on Trade-Related Aspects of Intellectual Property Rights (TRIPs).

This initiative gathered organizations operating from Paris, Brussels, and Berlin and aimed to significantly contribute to the development of an effective and innovation-driven regulatory framework. In this context, SCOPE Europe firmly believes in the importance of such exercises in order to guarantee a fair and sustainable digital transition in the EU.
