SCOPE EuropeEU Cloud CoCPress Release

Brussels, 09 November 2021 – The EU Cloud CoC General Assembly is proud to announce that T-Systems is our newest member. This addition further strengths the Code’s unique membership constellation and is a crucial step towards the optimization of GDPR implementation within the cloud sector.

Enabling innovation and growth across our entire economy, cloud computing is the core driver of the digital transition. Against this background, while striving to fully explore the potential of this key technology, guaranteeing the broad and harmonized enforcement of high data protection standards becomes simply imperative.

The EU Cloud CoC emerges, in this context, as a powerful tool to promote alignment and optimize GDPR implementation throughout all cloud service layers. Being the first of its kind to become fully legally operational, the Code provides practical guidance to support day-to-day compliance exercises while fostering a collaborative ecosystem that prompts the continuous development of efficient privacy solutions.

As a major force in the digital industry with a deep commitment to boosting digitalization and maximizing its benefits, T-Systems is an extremely valuable addition to the EU Cloud CoC General Assembly. Their engagement is another testimony to the singularity of Codes of Conduct and their capacity to tackle several issues imposed by the digital economy.

Addressing T-Systems' membership, Dr. Claus-Dieter Ulmer, DTAG Global Data Privacy Officer, stated:

We firmly believe in the importance of fomenting trust in the cloud industry and in the particular role of Codes of Conduct to do so. The EU Cloud CoC enhances transparency and accountability, building a crucial bridge that allows customers to develop a strong level of confidence in CSPs, which is indispensable for a successful digital transition”.

Reacting to the membership of T-Systems, Jörn Wittmann, Managing Director of SCOPE Europe, said:

Having T-Systems onboard further attests to the high-quality benchmark established by the EU Cloud CoC. Besides being thrilled to welcome such a key stakeholder, we are confident that their solid expertise will strengthen our ecosystem and meaningfully contribute to the harmonization and optimization of GDPR implementation”.
