SCOPE EuropeEU Cloud CoCPress Release

Brussels, 17 August 2022 – The EU Cloud CoC General Assembly is thrilled to announce that Dropbox has successfully concluded its adherence to the Code, furthering trust, and accountability in the European cloud market.

Approved and fully legally operational since May 2021, the EU Cloud CoC has been consistently and increasingly enabling trust in cloud services across Europe. This well-rounded tool safeguards all processing activities under the GDPR, covering every cloud service layer as well as all types of personal data, including those of sensitive nature.

This comprehensive approach adopted by the EU Cloud CoC is allowing the cloud industry – a diverse, innovative, and ever-transforming environment – to align under a high-level data protection benchmark.

When declaring adherence to the Code, Dropbox demonstrates its commitment to the materialization of European data protection values on a daily basis. Furthermore, the successful adherence journey of Dropbox supports the building of a trustworthy environment for European cloud users, which is indispensable for the dissemination of this key technology.

Reacting to the EU Cloud CoC adherence, Bart Volkmer, Chief Legal Officer at Dropbox, stated:

The EU Cloud Code of Conduct enables organizations like Dropbox to transparently and consistently demonstrate their commitment to GDPR compliance. Our adherence to the Code evidences that commitment, and also marks a milestone in our journey to continue building trust in cloud services.”

Addressing the adherence of Dropbox, Jörn Wittmann, Managing Director of SCOPE Europe, said:

The extraordinary growth and recognition of the EU Cloud CoC as a high-quality market standard is now reinforced by the adherence of Dropbox. The Code is a crucial trust enabler for cloud users across Europe and its dissemination creates countless opportunities for all-sized business to innovate and scale in a GDPR-compliant manner.”
