Privacy Conference 2019: "Codes of Conduct – A Success-Factor for GDPR and Businesses"

SCOPE EuropeSRIWEvent

Selbstregulierung Informationswirtschaft (SRIW) discusses the role of Codes of Conduct as one success-factor for GDPR and businesses, together with other high-level panelists from Supervisory Authorities, industry and the privacy community.

The Privacy Conference is one of the flagship events for the European privacy community: For the 5th time, the German digital association Bitkom brings together over 300 privacy professionals to discuss the most important topics in data protection and privacy. We are excited to share lessons learned from the many years of experience of SRIW with Codes of Conduct (see our projects) as well as practical experience of SCOPE Europe as Monitoring Body for the EU Cloud Code of Conduct.

About Codes of Conduct:

We are excited to participate at the Privacy Conference 2019, as one and a half years since the adoption of the GDPR, the introduction of Codes of Conduct is well underway: Codes of Conduct and their independent monitoring enhance the implementation of GDPR and flank the oversight of Supervisory Authorities. At the same time, Codes of Conduct also offer businesses and processing sectors an innovation-friendly, modern and practical compliance tool. These and other key benefits were also discussed in the recently adopted Guidelines on Codes of Conduct and Monitoring Bodies from the European Data Protection Board.

About the Panel:

Therefore, we look forward to discussing different perspectives on Codes of Conduct under GDPR with:

  • Maria Wilhelm, German supervisory authority LfDI Baden-Württemberg
  • Peter Schaar, Former Federal Data Protection Commissioner
  • Lorena Marciano Director, EMEAR Data Protection and Privacy Officer, Cisco
  • Jonathan R. D. Sage, Chairman of the EU Cloud CoC General Assembly & Regulatory Affairs, IBM
  • Jörn Wittmann, Managing Director, SRIW
