Updates on the SRIW ecosystem and the latest self- and co-regulatory developments in the information economy - with a keen focus on data and consumer protection.
SRIW’s Recent Happenings
Dear Readers,
the use of geodata holds enormous potential—whether for sustainable urban planning, environmental protection, or innovative business models. But with great opportunities come great challenges: How can companies handle geodata responsibly? What data protection aspects need to be considered? And what role does the Geodata Code of Conduct play in ensuring legal certainty and trust in georeferenced data?
In our interview with Michael Mundt, Senior Business Development Manager at Esri Deutschland, we explore these questions and gain exciting insights into the future of geodata and its impact on society.
Furthermore, with the German general election approaching, we complied the parties’ manifestos and analysed them with regard to key issues in the areas of digitalisation, data protection and artificial intelligence. SRIW still sees potential in many election programmes to do justice to a fast-moving, digital reality effectively and with added value through modern regulatory approaches.
Enjoy digging in,
SRIW
The protection of personal data is a fundamental right and an essential basis for trust and innovation. In an interview with Michael Mundt, Senior Business Development Manager at Esri Deutschland, we gained exciting insights into the diverse world of geodata and its future development and potential. In the interview, we discuss the responsibility companies have when dealing with geodata, the data protection challenges facing service providers and the benefits geodata can have for climate protection.
With great potential also come challenges, particularly in the interpretation of data protection laws. The Geodata Code of Conduct (dt.: Geodatenkodex) offers a pioneering solution for more legal certainty and trustworthy handling of georeferenced image material.
The code balances the interests of data processors and data subjects and uses technical and organisational measures to ensure that innovation goes hand in hand with data protection. This strengthens informational self-determination and promotes public trust in innovative technologies.
The importance of responsible data processing is particularly evident with regard to data-driven technologies. Self-regulation and co-regulation make it possible to react flexibly to technological and social developments. Close cooperation between business, politics and civil society results in solutions that are practical and sustainable.
