SRIW’s Recent Happenings
Dear Readers,
as November went by fast and the holiday season begins to take shape, we’re delighted to bring you the latest news and insights in this month’s newsletter. From a landmark ECJ ruling on data protection supervisory authorities to the evolving discussion on drone footage regulation and the Geodata Code of Conduct, there’s plenty to reflect on before we finally head into December.
We’re also looking back on our recent Association Day in Berlin, a wonderful occasion filled with engaging dialogue, fresh ideas, and a sense of community as we prepare for the year ahead. And with exciting opportunities on the horizon—including a chance to join our team as part-time IT support—there’s much to look forward to.
Happy reading,
SRIW
Last Thursday, we organised an association day in Berlin. It was a great pleasure to spend an afternoon and evening together with members, committee representatives and some people interested in SRIW, where the focus was on dialogue, inspiration and new ideas. The keynote speech by Dr. Gero Ziegenhorn (Rechtsanwalt/Partner bei REDEKER SELLNER DAHS Rechtsanwälte) and SCOPE Europe’s Managing Director Gabriela Mercuri was a particular highlight. The accreditation of codes of conduct faces challenges at both national and European level. The crux of the matter is that the supervisory authorities usually have different requirements and the accreditation processes lack harmonisation. Many thanks to all participants. We are already looking forward to the next Association Day!
Potential of the Geodata CoC
A recent judgement by the German Federal Court of Justice (BGH) touches upon drone footage. The Geodata Code of Conduct offers approaches for the data protection-compliant handling of such footage - and could be further developed in the future.

We are currently looking for IT support on a part-time basis to help ensure that our internal processes run optimally and continue to improve.
